Mr. Schmidt,

Forgive the woefully late reply. The internet service here has been very unreliable. To Tina's comments I will add that it is up to professors to develop the trips generally. The service learning is what my co-leader, Prof. Manian from Lynchburg College, and I found most compelling about this trip. We plan to find a way to return next summer, especially since we have established such good connections here and have worked out some kinks. Thanks for your interest, and I invite your further comments or suggestions.

I am sure that you will be very comfortable in St. Lucia. I assure you that if you want to stay we will gladly accept you as a St. Lucian. Our culture is diverse since we have a rich heritage. Whats there not to enjoy? Maybe after interacting with you guys some of us may want to go to Randolph College.

Dear Mr. Schmidt,

Greetings from the Experiential Learning Center (ELC) at Randolph College! I work in the newly created ELC as the Director of International Programs. We have several faculty members who offer service learning opportunities through on-campus courses but this is the first time we have developed an international service learning program. Service learning courses are typically initiated by interested faculty but our office is available to support their efforts, either by connecting students with approriate local service agencies or handling the logistics for programs like the St. Lucia experience. If you have additional questions, I would be glad to speak with you in person. Our office number is 434-947-8116.

How common are S-L opportunities at RC/RMWC? Is there a college-wide coordination of these activities, or is it up to each instructor, like yourself, to develop these courses?
